Under the Malaysian chairmanship of the ASEAN Committee in Muscat (ACM), the Embassies of ASEAN in Muscat (Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Singapore) organised the ASEAN Friendship Golf Tournament 2023 on 18 February 2023 at the Ghala Golf Club.

The friendship tournament was graced by the presence of His Excellency Azzan Qassim Mohammad Al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Tourism and Heritage of the Sultanate of Oman, as Chief Guest of Honour. It had gathered almost 50 golfers from both ASEAN and Omani nationals. The invitations to join the tournament were extended to the officials in the Foreign Ministry of the Sultanate of Oman, the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) and the Oman Golf Association. Some of the well-known Omani players such as His Highness Ambassador Nazar Al Said (Ambassador of Oman to Italy), His Highness Azzan Qais Al Said, and Mr. Mundhir Al Barwani (Chairman of Oman Golf Association) took part in the tournament.

In the spirit of the auspicious events of Isra and Mikraj on 18 February, the tournament had successfully promoted the spirit of unity and friendship through sports and strengthened the people-to-people relations between ASEAN and the Sultanate of Oman. The gathering had also served as a platform for cultural exchanges among the golfers of the seven countries (Oman, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand).

Oman Team clinched the champion title followed by the Philippines and Singapore Teams in the second and third places, respectively. Mr. Elias Tang of Singapore emerged as champion in the individual category followed by Mr. Mohsin Al Kindy of Oman and Mr. Jamel Panolong of the Philippines in the second and third places, respectively.

Ms. Jameela Daud of the Philippines won the champion title in the women category. On-Course Features Awards of Nearest to the Pin and 2nd Best Shot on the 18th Hole were awarded to Mr. Faisal Al Adawi of Oman and Mr. Gurmesh Singh of Malaysia, respectively.
