Ghala Golf Club

Our History

The Beginning of Ghala Golf Club

1970

Ghala Golf Club was founded in 1971 as a 9-hole sand course built inside the natural wadi of Ghala. It became one of Oman’s first organized golfing communities and laid the foundation for the sport in the country.

Growth of the Golf Community

1980s

Throughout these decades, Ghala evolved into a vibrant community club. Despite being a sand course, it became a social and sporting hub, hosting local tournaments and fostering the early golfing culture in Oman.

Developing Oman's Golf Talent

1990

By the 1990s, Ghala had become home to many of Oman’s rising golf players. The club played a key role in supporting junior golfers and national team hopefuls who later represented Oman internationally.

A Vision for Modernization

2000

During the 2000s, a new strategic vision was developed to modernize Ghala Golf Club. The plan focused on transforming the traditional sand course into a fully grassed, championship-level facility while preserving the natural beauty of the wadi. This period marked the beginning of major upgrades that would redefine the club’s future.

Opening of the First Grassed 9 Holes

2010

A major milestone was reached in December 2010 when the club unveiled the first 9 holes of its new grass course. This began the full conversion from the traditional brown fairways to a modern, irrigated, green championship layout.

A New Era of Events, Growth, and International Presence

2025

By 2025, Ghala Golf Club has fully evolved into a premier venue for prestigious tournaments, corporate events, and international golf gatherings. The club continues to support Oman's national team, invests in youth development, strengthens partnerships with global sponsors, and hosts major annual events that attract players from across the GCC and beyond. Ghala remains not only Oman’s oldest golf club but also a modern symbol of the country’s sporting excellence and future vision.
